Fantasy Football Week 4 Draft: A New Wrinkle In Traditional Fantasy Football
This week we decided to incorporate a new item to help hardcore fantasy football players find key match-ups and people to start. It also lends itself to our desire to crown a fantasy football guru. We took our top three gurus and asked them to draft two teams. Not only was it a great reason to get together on Thursday night and talk about fantasy football, but also proved helpful for our gurus to pick there weekly studs, sleepers, and waiver wire picks. Here are the results from our Week 4 Fantasy Football Draft:

Week 4 Fantasy Over/Under
Week 3 was filled with great games and tons of fantasy drama. Last week my record was 3-2. This week you should be hitting your fantasy football stride. Week 4 should be great based on the matchups.
The top Over/Unders this week are all very similar. Great offense taking on great defenses. Packers visit the Vikings and Favre on Monday night. OVER 45.5. I see this one being a high scoring affair with each QB trying to outperform the other. Aside form the top players, start Harvin and S. Rice if you are in need of a 2nd or 3rd WR. Saints take on the tough defense of the Jets in a huge early season game. OVER 45. Look for Saints to continue their passing attack at home on the turf. Expect big plays in this one. Patriots are home taking on Ravens. Under 44.5. Ravens still play great defense and expect Patriots defense to slow Ravens passing attack. If you have other options you should not start any WR or TE with the Ravens and only start MaGahee at RB. Rice is at best a 3rd RB. Moss and Brady are must starts every week.
The Lows for this week include Bucs @ Skins, Bills @ Dolphins, and Rams @ Niners all having Over/Under of 37. Defenses of Bills, Skins, and Niners are all nice starts this week. Coffee should carry the load for Niners and score big with Shaun Hill and Vernon Davis. Bills should not be started at any position other than DST. The RB situation should work itself out over the next few weeks and the Dolphins have a new starting QB in Chad Henne. This one will be Under along with Skins and Bucs game. Taking the Over in San Fran. Good Luck and Kick ASS.
Fantasy Football Week Three: Five Fantasy Gurus give you insight into their top players each week
This week FFLBlog.com enters a new era of Fantasy News and Advice. We’ve handpicked five fantasy gurus to provide you with studs, duds, and fantasy football deep sleepers each week. In addition to this we are challenging their football intellect by asking them to place a friendly wager on three games and to uncover two deep sleepers that should be on your radar. We’ll tally their scores each week and evaluate their knowledge base and techniques to crown the 2009 Fantasy Football Guru.

Week Three Commentary:
SlickRick:
This week is when we start to find out who is for real. My beat down of the week has the Jets looking human and the Jaguars getting back on track. Younger players are going to start stealing looks from older veterans like Jamal Lewis, Joseph Addai, and Willie Parker will start to see fewer carries. Week 4 pick-ups have a greater importance with bye weeks looming in weeks 4-9. Do your homework and Good Luck!
HotDice:
Fantasy Football gets serious this week. Week three offers some nice match-ups and there are plenty of people emerging from the free agents ranks that you’ll need to consider going into bye weeks and injuries. This week after you set your line-up, go out and check out your opponents for week 4 and 5. See who’ll be sitting out and where their teams are week, i.e., need a QB or replacement TE. This is important because you’re going to want to strike first on the waiver wire and possibly force them to trade or make a stretch acquisition. Most people set and play the game week to week, so take the extra time to plan for the future and you’ll be able to give yourself that all important competitive edge.
BrazenB:
There are several big games this week and quite a few people out there hoping that some of their feature players will come around this week (aka Tom Brady, Steve Slaton). Make sure that you are patient, there are plenty of moves to be made and when the bi-weeks start it will be a whole new ballgame. Don’t make any brash trades just yet and make sure you keep updating your scouting team. Having an abundance of starters at one position can give you a lot of leverage for trades in the coming weeks.
Juice Factory:
If there was ever a week to impose the classic up down theory, than this has to be it. An angry Pats team has been chomping at the bit to get back out onto the field. Moss has been called out as a coward, Brady has his confidence shaken, and Billy boy looks to be growing older by the second from sleep deprivation. Insert a Hotlanta team that has yet to face any adversity yet this year. I look for Ryan to be on the run all day and TGon to be erased from any sort of stats considered worthy by the end of the day. I expect the Pats to blow out the Falcons by double digits and this game could get ugly by the 4th quarter. Houston shows the promise of a team that was not far away from the playoffs last year and now enters into the sweet spot of their schedule. I look for Schaub and Company to become locked in starters from here and out. Injuries are already starting to become a factor and playing the waiver wire will prove critical in keeping your team out in front of would be challengers to your title march. With several elite Rbs already being pasted with red crosses, it is imperative to keep your starter’s handcuff on the bench no matter how good you think a Correll Buckhalter’s double digit fantasy performance in the previous week in garbage time might look. The young studs are started to rise to the cream, i.e. Felix Jones, Sproles, McCoy, Forsett, and keep an eye out for the shifty guy in SanFran named Coffee. Gore is fine to play this weekend, but he and Peterson are seeing huge workloads that could prove them to become fragile during your league’s playoff schedules. Insane thought for the week: Lions dismantle the Redskins to end the second longest losing streak in NFL history. Lions are a bad team, but Zorn has lost this team albeit with no help from his owner trying to trade Campbell for just about anything or anyone this past spring. No leaders, malcontents, Coach on the hot seat, equal a Lions Victory!

Week 3 Fantasy Football Over/Unders
Filed under: Fantasy Football Help, Fantasy Football Review
Knowing is half the battle and knowledge is the key to success. That is why I like to reference Vegas odds makers when I decide what players are good starts on a weekly basis. This week the highest point total is Saints @ Bills 52. The Saints have an injury filled backfield so look for more of the same when it comes to the passing attack. Shockey, Henderson, and Bush are must start players. Bills play tough at home and should put up some points themselves. Fred Jackson, Lee Evans, and T.O. are all must starts. Colts @ Cards 47. Both teams love to pass so expect a long game filled with Passing TD’s. Start top 3 Cards WR and Tim Hightower. Colts have added a speed threat to the passing game with Pierre Garcon. Carolina @ Cowboys 47, and Jags @ Texans 46.5. Felix Jones looks like a great start with Barber out. Only start Roy Williams in a pinch because he has Mike Williams Speed. Steve Smith and Muhs Muhammad should have success vs Dallas D. This weeks pick for breakout game is Steve Slaton. Texans sould give up a bunch of points to the Jags. Look for Mike Sims-Walker to have a good game along with M. Lewis and MJD.
This weeks low OVER/UNDERS include Denver at Oakland 35.5, Steelers @ Bengals 37, Bears @ Seahawks 37, and Titans @ Jets 37. Take caution when starting 2nd teir players from these games.
My picks for BIG OVERs this week are Colts @ Cards, Jags @ Texans, and Titans are going to put it to the Jets. My little unders are Bills -Saints and Cowboys-Panthers. Good Luck and Kick ASS
Tuesdays Hot Tamales’ Week 3
Some HOT players you should look to add if you need some help this week. Laurent Robinson of the Rams will be losing often so passing will be a must for the Rams. T. Choice of the Cowboys may get some looks this week with M. Barber out. The Redskins Defense takes on the Lions and a Rookie QB. Johnny Knox of the Bears looked good this week but expect many ups and downs with Jay Cutler and the Bears Offense.
Here are a few more obvious picks: Mario Manningham and Steve Smith of the Giants. Buckhalter (Broncos), Bobby Wade(Cheifs), Brent Celek, and Jason Avant of the Eagles.
This weeks Far from Hot Players include anybody trying to catch the ball from the worst QB in the league since Rick Mirer, Jamarcus Russell.
Week 2 Fantasy Football Sleepers and Replacements
Running Back: Last week the Chiefs gave up huge yards to multiple Running Backs and I expect the Raiders to run early and often making Michael Bush a great fantasy sleeper this week. Chester Taylor will get some garbage carries to put up good numbers against the Lions. Player on radar for next week is James Davis of the Browns.
Wide Receiver: Last week Jay Cutler looked bad. His favorite target is Earl Bennett and look for the Steelers to give up another big passing day this week without Troy Polamalu. This week Percy Harvin matches up against a slow Lions Defense that gave up 6 passing TD’s last week. Start the rookie!
Quarterback: It is funny to call Brett Favre a sleeper but he should put up good numbers against the Lions. Jay Cutler plays a tough run defense in the Steelers so they are going to air it out.
Tight End: The Green Bay offense will get on track this week and Jermichael Finley will have a coming out party. The Eagles are starting an inexperienced QB so he will look for TE often. Start Brent Celek if you are in a pinch.
Defense: Start any Defense that plays the Rams or the Lions is my motto for the season. This week you should also look at the Bills D. They played well on the road last week and will beat up a Bucs team with a QB that runs like a statue.
Last Weeks results: Scored well with Mike Bell, Zack Miller, Seattle Def, and had descent games with Reggie Bush, Shaun Hill, Donnie Avery, and Saints D. Huge miss on Lance Moore and Brandon Peetigrew.
Fantasy Guru Rick
Week 1 Fantasy Sleepers
Running Back: My theory is to start players against a bad defense. Mike Bell and Reggie Bush both are great starts against the Lions. Also, look for Fred Jackson to start strong against a Patriots D that will miss the departed Seymour.
Wide Receiver: Losing in the fourth quarter should be looked at as a Fantasy Bonus. Donnie Avery and the Rams will be losing often this season. Lance Moore against the Lions is a nice sleeper.
Quarterback: The Colts with Bob Sanders and the Colts without Bob are 2 very different defenses. Start David Garrard if you need some QB help this week. Shaun Hill also looks to put up big numbers against a Cardinals defense that allowed the most passing TD’s last season.
Tight End: Young Quarterbacks often look to get rid of the ball in the face of many blitzing defenders. That is why I like Zack Miller of the Raiders for a big week and Brandon Pittigrew of the Lions to get plenty of looks.
Defense: Start any Defense that plays the Rams or the Lions. Seattle and New Orleans may not be good starts for the rest of the season but take a chance this week.

Fantasy Football 2009: Let the games begin
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to personally welcome you to the 2009 fantasy football season. Yes, it’s that time of year again where you have to spend countless hours researching and managing your perfect fantasy football team. Others don’t understand so don’t try to explain it, just live it.
Let’s start this season by asking: Who’s taking Michael Vick? I’ve got that sly dog pegged for the 15th round. Whose your crazy ass, haymaker hopeful ace in the hole?

Fantasy Football Week 5: Fantasy Football Emergency Room, Quick Acquisitions For Trade Bait
It’s week five and that means you need to buckle down and start preparing to make some serious changes if you’re teams not performing. Start this morning by making simple acquisitions. Look to pick-up a better kicker, defense or tight-end who’s been playing well. Check-out David Akers, Carolina’s D (this week against sorry-ass KC) and Casey Fitzsimmons from Detroit.
The purpose for a quick acquisition or two is to find some positive trending people to throw in with a big trade. Keep your eyes and ears open and after a few soda pops, give a few buddies a cal today if one of their studs are not performing. Now get to the man cave ad prepare for another Sunday success.
QB:
Kyle Orton. He’s playing Detroit for crying out loud. Even with a couple of key receivers hurt, you gotta start em!
RB:
Check-out TJ Duckett. With Maurice Morris still out, he’s getting plenty of carries and even with Morris’ return, he’ll get critical goal-line carries.
WR:
Miles Austin. This guy is Dallas’ may not pack the punch or T.O. or even Clayton, but since defenses focus so much on them he’ll get plenty of looks and opportunities.
TE:
Casey Fitzsimmons Det. Detroit’s playing a tough D in Chicago, and hopefully with Matt Milan gone, they’ll at least partially abandon this pathetic game ly to establish a run. Look for Casey to hit double digits this week.
Defense:
Carolina. They’ve gotten off to a slow start but have a great mach-up this week against KC.
This week’s Trash Talk Post:
Last night I went on a blind date and it turns out that fat girls have a lot in common with your team. First, she just flat out stunk. The smell that was emanating from her ass was like a cheese whiz, barnyard, potato salad, and chicken nuggets with lots of ranch kinda stench. Anyways reminded me of you, your draft and fantasy team. The other similarity was how her stretch marks and fat rolls appeared to never end. Just like the massacre that will take place today as I stomp and roll your band of chumps. Good luck and if you ever get set-up on a blind date with a girl who calls herself Sexy Cheese Sauce who likes going to the petting zoo, politely decline the invitation.

Bye Weeks Replacemens: Fantasy Football Emergency Room Week Four
Bye weeks are here, plenty of injury issues to deal with, and of course ample underperforming players. What the hell is up with receivers this year? Bunch of fucking jokers, QB isn’t exactly my favorite position this year either; Aaron Rodgers is outplaying Peyton Manning for crying out loud.
Week four represents the end of the first quarter of the fantasy football season. Most leagues start play-offs around week 13 or 14, so you need to put on your special helmet and tighten up the chin strap. Say goodbye to your family and head to the man cave for some fantasy football bliss. A couple of Last weeks picks worked out well, with Matt Ryan performing as well as Michael Pittman holding his own. Lets make it happen again here in week 4.
QB:
David Garrard. He’s left some things to be desired this year with more interceptions than TD’s, but look to him in a pinch this week. He’s playing Indy who hasn’t really impressed this year. Expect two TD’s and 200 yards.
RB:
Lingering injuries and goal line carries are important to monitor. If you haven’t already snagged Michael Pittman or LeRon McClain for Goal line carries do so… and don’t be shy about Correll Buckhalter and Michael Bush because of lingering injuries to starters. Westbrook is always hurt, which gives Buckhalter regular carries and he’s a solid performer when Westbrook is out. Bush is a dicer call since McFadden is playing but he is a rookie so expect him to be hurt all year. Bush is a nice insurance policy and you may get lucky in a bye week if McFadden can’t go.
WR:
Ike Hilliard. Yes this guy is still playing and he’s producing every week. He’s out playing Chad Johnson and a slew of supposed other superstar receivers, so go with the flow and add em in a tight week. As a side note, keep Amani Toomer on the radar screen. Plaxico Burress was suspended for two weeks (but only one game) so look at Toomer as an emergency solution in week six.
TE:
Check out Visanthe Shiancoe for Minnesota. With Ferrotte at the QB helm, look for him to continue to check down to him and in seek him out the redzone.
.
Defense:
San Fran. They’ve gotten continually better but have a tough match-up with New Orleans in week four, but sometimes those tough match-ups work out the best. No risk, no fantasy reward.
This week’s Trash Talk Post:
I’ve got a hooker friend down in Washington DC that I had to call because your hairy, two timing sister and mom have turned off the love faucet again on me. Anyway we got to talking and I asked her to talk to some of the congressional stiffs she’s sleeping with to include you and your sorry ass fantasy team into this government bail-out program. Don’t thank me yet because you won’t get help until next week but at least you’ll have a block of welfare cheese to pass around the barrel fire next week.
